Some of the objectives that I am pursuing during my practicum experience are personal, professional, and leadership. On a personal level, to effectively negotiate the multiplicity of my practice with patient care and the work setup dynamics, I would focus on learning more about myself, besides enhancing my emotional intelligence.

The interpretation of the principles of DEI has also been adjusted throughout my tenure, and I am now aware of the critical role of such a concept in improving the inclusive healthcare environment. I used to consider that DEI was a set of principles, but now I think it is something natural in my action and decision-making process. I would also make every effort possible to make sure that no patient is treated unfairly and unequally based on their background.
The implicit bias, in turn, might not be equally applied, as it might affect the decision-making process and lead to the unequal treatment of a patient or the failure to notice every detail of a patient. As a nursing professional, you will be obliged to turn it into a business to understand and get rid of these biases. In my case, when collaborating with my colleagues, I will foster collaboration and also create an environment where different opinions are embraced. An unconscious bias is the opportunity factor that can become a problem for the developing principles of the DEI because it can influence the relations. To prevent this, I will ensure that I constantly engage in self-reflection and cultural competency education to ensure that I never cease learning and growing. Also, I will utilize the assistance of fellow workers and mentors to get feedback to improve my practice.

The other occasion when I had been consulted with one of the clients, I made a conscious effort to instill the ideas of DEI, such as the fact that I made sure that the patient felt respected and listened to. I posed open-ended questions to them to ensure that I learn about their concerns and their preferences, considering their cultural values and beliefs. Instead, when the patient could express himself without problems, the communication was not an issue, thus earning trust.
